Auriculotherapy PDF Print E-mail

Auriculotherapy is a procedure in which stimulation of the nerve endings of the external ear is utilized to alleviate health conditions in other parts of your body. Auriculotherapy facilitates the natural, self regulating homeostatic mechanisms of the body. It does this by diminishing overactive body functions and increasing  underactive physiological processes. This is achived by using gentle electrical stimulation on the external ear using a micro current stimulator.

Auriculotherapy is often confused with ear acupuncture but it uses no needles and instead of being based on "meridians" it uses nerve endings. Unlike acupuncture Auricular points will only appear when there is some physical or functional disorder in that part of the body. Each point of the ear represents a different body part.

Imagine your brain as a computer and your ear as a keyboard. Inside the computer is a "directory" of the entire body. This map is projected onto the ear through the body's nervous system. Accessing these points on the map is like using a keyboard (the ear) to gain access into the system. With this system we are able to treat a number of problems and conditions through the "brain's computer"

There are many different health complaints that Auriculotherapy can alleviate or help with and the best thing is that Auriculotherapy has no contraindications or dangers. (Although for added safety we do not recommend this treatment if you have a pacemaker or are in the first trimester of pregnancy)
