Why We Use NeuroInfiniti Testing at Joshua Wellness Practice
Understanding the brain and nervous system behind your health
At Joshua Wellness Practice, we don't just want to know where you hurt.
We want to understand how your brain and nervous system are functioning, how they are responding to the stresses of life, and what patterns may have developed over time that are influencing your health, wellbeing and quality of life.
This is why NeuroInfiniti testing has become such an important part of the way we provide brain-based chiropractic care.
I first began using NeuroInfiniti in 2006, and almost 20 years later, it remains one of the most valuable tools I use in practice.
But the reason I started using it is an important part of the story.
It started with children
For many years, I worked with children who had been labelled with learning difficulties, behavioural problems and other challenges.
What I observed was fascinating.
Some of these children responded remarkably well to chiropractic care — but not necessarily in a way that fitted the traditional explanation of an adjustment simply "moving a bone" or taking pressure off a nerve.
In many cases, the changes we were seeing appeared to be much more about how the child's brain was functioning and adapting.
Their behaviour could change.
Their ability to concentrate could change.
Their coordination could change.
Their ability to regulate themselves could change.
This led me to ask a much bigger question:
Could the chiropractic adjustment actually be influencing the function of the brain and nervous system?
The results I was seeing suggested that something neurological was happening.
But I wanted a way to measure it.
That was one of the reasons I began using NeuroInfiniti in 2006 — to investigate whether the changes we were seeing clinically could also be demonstrated through objective measures of brain and nervous system function.
From "Where is the problem?" to "How is the brain responding?"
This changed the way I thought about chiropractic care.
Rather than simply looking at the physical presentation of a person, NeuroInfiniti gave me another window into what was happening within their nervous system.
It allowed me to look at how their brain and nervous system were responding to stress, how well they could settle and recover, and whether their system was adapting appropriately.
Over time, I began to recognise that people can develop very different patterns in response to the stresses they experience throughout life.
Some people may be constantly wired and alert.
Others may become braced and guarded.
Some may struggle to settle after stress, while others may become exhausted or disconnected from what is happening around them.
These patterns aren't simply labels — they are clues that help us understand how a person's nervous system has adapted.
Your nervous system has a history
Every day, your brain is receiving information from your environment and deciding:
"Am I safe, or do I need to protect myself?"
Physical stress, emotional stress, chemical stress, technology, poor sleep, lifestyle and past experiences can all contribute to the signals your brain receives.
Through neuroplasticity, the brain can learn and reinforce patterns.
What was once an occasional response to stress can eventually become a familiar pattern.
The nervous system can become very good at doing what it has repeatedly been asked to do.
This means that two people can walk into our practice with a very similar symptom, yet have completely different patterns in their brain and nervous system.
And if the underlying pattern is different, the way we approach their care may need to be different too.
This is where NeuroInfiniti becomes valuable
NeuroInfiniti gives us a way to look beyond the presenting symptom and explore the functional patterns of the brain and nervous system.
It can assess multiple measures including brainwave activity, muscle activity, heart rate and heart-rate variability, breathing, galvanic skin response and peripheral temperature.
Together, these measurements provide a picture of how your nervous system is functioning and responding.
We may see patterns such as:
Coherent – a nervous system that is coordinating and adapting well
Defended – remaining protective or guarded
Slow to Settle – having difficulty returning to a calmer state after stress
Wired – remaining highly activated
Braced – holding excessive tension and protection
Instable – struggling to maintain a consistent response
Exhausted – showing reduced capacity after prolonged stress
Decoupled – different systems not communicating or coordinating effectively
Mixed Pattern – a combination of several responses
These patterns are not diagnoses. They are a way of understanding how your brain and nervous system may currently be responding.
It helps us personalise your care
This is one of the biggest reasons I continue to use NeuroInfiniti.
Brain-based chiropractic isn't simply about applying the same approach to every person.
We want to understand what your nervous system is doing first.
Your NeuroInfiniti assessment helps us identify areas where your nervous system may be adapting well and areas where it may be stuck in a stress response.
This information helps guide the type, intensity and progression of brain-based chiropractic care that may be appropriate for you.
It also gives us something incredibly valuable:
A starting point.
Rather than simply asking whether you "feel better", we can reassess your nervous system over time and look for changes in its ability to respond, adapt and recover.
Nearly 20 years later, I see it differently
When I first started using NeuroInfiniti in 2006, I was primarily looking for a way to understand whether the changes I was seeing in children could actually be demonstrated through changes in brain function.
What I didn't fully appreciate then was just how much this technology could teach me about the relationship between the brain, nervous system, stress, adaptation and health.
Nearly 20 years later, I understand that the patterns we see in the nervous system can provide important clues about the way a person has adapted to their life experiences.
And this is why NeuroInfiniti is not simply a test we perform once.
We use it throughout care because your nervous system can change.
As your brain becomes better able to adapt, regulate and recover, we want to be able to see those changes.
Our goal isn't simply to help you get out of the symptom.
It is to help your brain and nervous system move from survival, toward adaptability, resilience and ultimately the ability to thrive.
Your symptoms are the message. Your nervous system may hold the pattern.
At Joshua Wellness Practice, NeuroInfiniti helps us look deeper — not just at what your body is experiencing, but at how your brain and nervous system are responding.
Because when we understand the pattern, we can make better-informed decisions about the care and lifestyle strategies that may help you change it.
